Every election seems to break a new advance voting record. I think that the only thing really happening is that advance voting is becoming more mainstream. When I was a kid, it was something done by people about to go on holidays or being impossibly unavailable on election day. Now, it’s pretty common among the general populace, even if they can make it out on election day.

You mean it’s not a good idea to trust someone who can’t get security clearances, and who’s only political ideas are slogans like ‘axe the tax’ and ‘lets have sex with Trudeau’?

I saw a truck today with stickers saying they wanted to fuck Trudeau and fuck carney. Conservatives are weird

I saw a truck with giant “Polievre 2025” flag. It’s weird how the asshole conservative circle falls almost entirely inside the pickup truck owner circle.

I mean, Trudeau is newly single and still a pretty solid dish.

Carney though, looks like me. Don’t understand that one.

I’d be curious if the timing of this being Easter weekend has anything to do with this. Many people had the stat holiday off and it’d work out well to swing by the polling station on their way to visit family.

The only problem now is we have to wait another 10+ days for the results.

Is there any benefit to advanced voting? I mean, it’s not busy at my local voting station on election day (at least not historically), so that’s when I plan to vote.

Is there any benefit to advanced voting?

It helps people who are working or traveling on election day. It makes voting easier for people with disabilities and reduces long lines on election day, etc etc etc.

tl;dr Encouraging more people to participate in an election is a good thing.

OK, yeah,. Pretty standard, and understandable stuff.

I keep hearing about ordinary voters who are like “vote early” as if there’s some unique advantage.

If you view your account settings in the browser, there should be a checkbox for “Bot”. This option is typically used for accounts that perform automated posting. So if yours is mainly a personal account, you may want to unchecked that option. The ability to change that may not be accessible through a third-party Lemmy app so you may need to login to lemm.ee on your browser.

The more people do it the less wait time there is on election day, the less people will turn around and decide not to vote.

You might be unexpectedly sick, hospitalized, dead, in jail, or otherwise unable to vote on election day. Early voting lets you avoid unexpected issues.

I like to go during Advance voting so that I can stop thinking about it, and if I forget to do it early I still have a few days leeway.

This election is probably the important one of our lifetime. I’ll be traveling on election day. And I can’t afford not to vote.

Avoid crowds and lines during regular voting day

Get it out of the way early

Just in case you’re busy on voting day for whatever reason

I guess it depends on the area.

My voting station is a local school, and it’s never been busy.

The early voting station is out of the way, and would be a hassle to get to unless I knew I could vote on election day.
